Fr\u00e9quentant le coll\u00e8ge des J\u00e9suites de Vannes puis le lyc\u00e9e Henri IV, il est par la suite dipl\u00f4m\u00e9 en sciences politiques et en philosophie. \u00c9l\u00e8ve de l&rsquo;IDHEC, il r\u00e9alise en 1960 un court-m\u00e9trage,\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0Wen kummer\u2019s\u00a0\u00bb, avant de devenir l&rsquo;assistant de quelques grands noms du cin\u00e9ma fran\u00e7ais : Jean-Pierre Melville, Alain Resnais, Louis Malle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Au Festival de Cannes 1966, le premier long-m\u00e9trage de Volker Schl\u00f6ndorff, \u00ab\u00a0Les d\u00e9sarrois de l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve Toerless\u00a0\u00bb, obtient en 1966 le Prix de la Critique Internationale, ainsi que le Ruban d&rsquo;argent, l&rsquo;une des plus importantes distinctions ouest-allemandes. \u00c0 partir de cette date, il tourne plusieurs films pratiquement inconnus du grand public, et avant tout destin\u00e9s aux spectateurs des festivals et des cin\u00e9math\u00e8ques :\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0Baal\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0(1969),\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0La soudaine richesse des pauvres gens de Kombach\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0(1971),\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0Feu de paille\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0(1972),\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0Une nuit au Tyrol\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0(1973), avant de porter \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9cran un livre d&rsquo;Heinrich B\u00f6ll,\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0L&rsquo;honneur perdu de Katharina Blum\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0(1975), qui le fit conna\u00eetre au public fran\u00e7ais.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Aid\u00e9 par son \u00e9pouse, Margarethe Von Trotta, cosc\u00e9nariste ou interpr\u00e8te principale de plusieurs de ses cr\u00e9ations, Volker Schl\u00f6ndorff est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme l&rsquo;un des chefs de file du \u00ab\u00a0jeune cin\u00e9ma allemand\u00a0\u00bb. Fid\u00e8le \u00e0 son \u0153uvre, qui rend parfaitement compte de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 sociale de son pays, il r\u00e9alise en 1977 \u00ab\u00a0L\u2019Allemagne en automne\u00a0\u00bb (1977), documentaire politique relatant les \u00e9v\u00e9nements tragiques survenus en RFA en octobre 1977, de l&rsquo;enl\u00e8vement de Hanns-Martin Schleyer \u00e0 la mort d&rsquo;Andreas Baader.
